THE former boardroom of Melbourne’s Port Authority Building has hit the market as a lavish apartment.
A buyer will need to dig deep to snap up the 325sq m home at 101/29-31 Market St, Melbourne — it’s being sold privately with a price guide of $7-$7.7 million.
The apartment was created inside the heritage-listed building by SJB Interiors, who retained regal features including blackwood panelling, parquetry flooring, bronze light fittings, marble fireplace mantels and ornate ceilings.

Heritage documents state the architecturally and historically significant building was designed by architects Sydney Smith, Ogg and Serpell in flamboyant Beaux Arts-style in 1929, and occupied by the Port Authority as “the centre of Melbourne’s maritime industry” until 1982.
Dubbed “a landmark property in terms of stateliness and luxury” by selling agency Kay & Burton, the apartment contains two marble kitchens, a handsome sitting room and study, and three bedrooms, two with marble ensuites.
